Agropower Gasification Plant Pvt. Limited, Electrical power generation from renewable energy sources is considered a promising option for self sustained growth with almost no impact on environment. In this regard, harnessing energy from biomass which is a indigenous substitute for the imported petroleum was investigated experimentally. Wood pieces were converted to producer gas by a thermo-chemical process called gasification. This low heating value gas was cooled and cleaned before supplying to the engine coupled to an electrical generator. The engine was run in dual fuel mode using producer gas as primary fuel and diesel as pilot fuel. The gasifier-engine-generator system was tested at various electrical loads from 0 kW to 2.7 kW. The maximum diesel replacement percentage achieved was about 78 %. If the fuel supply system is improved further, then the diesel replacement percentage can be expected to increase.

Thermal Mode

Thermal energy of the order of 5 MJ is released, by flaring 1 m3 of producer gas in the burner. Flame temperatures as high as 1550 K can be obtained by optimal pre-mixing of air with gas. For applications which require thermal energy, gasifiers can be a good option as a gas generator, and retrofitted with existing devices. An appropriate site to realise the above application is an unelectrified village or hamlet. The benefits derived from this could be many, right from irrigation of fields to the supply of drinking water, and illuminating the village to supporting village industries. The other suitable sites could be saw mills and coffee plantations, where waste wood (of course of specified size) could be used as a feed stock in gasifiers.

Paddy Dryer

The rice grain is susceptible to cracking only below critical moisture content, where, if the drying rate is too fast it becomes a serious source of cracking. Moisture evaporates only from the surface; so the moisture from the inner layer first diffuses to the surface and then it evaporates. This process therefore sets up a steep moisture gradient in the grain, as the surface being excessively dry and the core still wet, this results in moisture stress and the grain releases the stress by cracking.KILBURN has devised a system to properly dry the grain to the desired moisture by way of gentle handling. The recommended combination for Drying Parboiled Paddy is : KILBURN VFBD + Column Dryer.

Paddy Parboiling System

Parboiled rice is more difficult to dry and requires energy than field paddy because its moisture content is much higher, however, higher air temperature help reduce the drying time. Most parboiled paddy is sun-dried on large drying floors by large number of people who are required to constantly turn and mix the paddy to achieve rapid, uniform drying. In contrast with field paddy, Nagraj Driers helps to dry parboiled paddy,it requires air temperatures of up to 100 C during the first drying period. During the second period air temperature should be kept below 75 C. Moisture reduction takes place rapidly during the first part of drying from 36 to 18 per cent moisture level, but is slow from 18 to 14 per cent.
